Just as the the weather changes, your body, skin and hair do too. As the colder temperatures arrive, so do an itchy, flaky scalp and flat hair (gasp!). What can you do to with your haircare routine to combat these unwelcomed changes?
Here's your plan of attack:
1) Add moisture- As humidity drops, your hair needs more moisture to adapt to the dryer, colder temperatures. Prevent split ends and dry hair with a moisturizing conditioner or conditioning hair mask. Be sure to select one for your hair type, i.e.. colored, fine, thick, normal. I love Organix Moroccan Argan Oil Intense Moisturizing Treatment.
*Please note, go easy on the roots with conditioner, as it will tend to weigh hair down, and roots usually don't need as much conditioner as the ends of hair do.
2) Use a volumizing product, such as a mousse or spray to give your hair some bounce and body, especially at the roots. This works well for both straight and curly hair. If you're blow drying your hair, lift it at the roots with a round brush to add extra volume, or scrunch it for curls. I like this one by Kerastase- K Mousse Bouffante.
3) Tea Tree Oil works wonders for an itchy scalp, or any part of the skin! It's a natural antiseptic and is super- effective in killing bacteria and fungus... not that you have fungus on your head or anything, but it's good to know! (ehhem, athletes' foot cure). I recommend mixing just a few drops (4- 7) into the palm of your hand with your favorite shampoo, transforming into a clarifying, anti- itch, anti- dandruff treatment.
